2008 Student Structures ProjectThe Quinte Home Builders' Association is once again proud to be part of the Quinte Students Structures program in 2008-2009. This year, Quinte Secondary School students will work with the skilled trades people and sub contractors of Geertsma Homes to build a home located in Belleville.
GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY
September 11, 2008.
The program provides school-to-work opportunities for senior technology students who enter the new four-credit Student Home Building Program. While in the program, students will build a house from the concrete footings through to completion. They will have opportunities to learn aspects of a wide variety of skilled trades such as carpentry, electrical wiring, plumbing, bricklaying, insulating, drywall, heating and air conditioning, finish carpentry, hardwood flooring, landscaping and roofing. Students involved in the program will work Mondays to Thursdays from 8:00 am to 2 pm and attend classes on Fridays for in-school assignments related to the project.
Local retailers, businesses, suppliers and contractors have generously donated personal tools for the students, equipment, water, water coolers and power tools for the program. The QHBA purchased a 6-foot by 12-foot cargo trailer which is once again on loan to the school for the project.
